Initial Plan: Just Replace the Damaged Area
The insurance company's initial assessment called for replacing only the bamboo in the office and under the stairs — a small $4,000 scope of work. The rest of the home's floors were to remain untouched.
But here's the problem:

- We bought a box of Cali Bamboo from Lowe's for comparison
- Our contact at Cali explained Lowe's-supplied planks come from a different manufacturing facility
- Cali shipped us a box from the exact production run they'd use for the order, even setting aside 5,000 pounds of flooring
The Result:
When both products arrived, the difference was obvious: the Lowe's planks were 40% lighter and noticeably less dense. Even the direct-from-Cali planks couldn't match the original color exactly — meaning a seamless repair was impossible.
